Lawyer and state senator, of Valley County, Mont. John Slattery served as County Attorney for Valley County for a number of years beginning in 1907. He was a member of the Progressive Party, as a member of which, he served in the state senate. In the early 1920s, President Harding appointed Slattery U.S. District Attorney for Montana.
